Abundance of Aphis spiraecola Patch on Chromolaena odorata (L.) in a Palm Plantation in Benin, Nigeria.

Abstract


The population of Aphis spiraecola in Chromolaena odorata infested palm plantation was studied at the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research, Benin, between August 2004 and January 2005. The objectives of this work were to study the population dynamics of Aphis spiraecola Patch in Nigeria and also to understand the relationship between the aphid and the weed. The study consisted of a weekly assessment of several hundred metre line transects along Chromolaena odorata infested field for the presence of Aphis spiraecola and aphid infested Chromolaena odorata plants using systematic and stratified sampling method.
